There are a number of companies that have come back to the region. Each have their unique personalities, and all have exciting itineraries exploring the following sites:
Itineraries start and end in Egypt’s capital city. Explore areas such as Old Cairo, Coptic Cairo, the walled city of Islamic Cairo, open air markets and souks. A highlight will certainly be the Egyptian Museum with its collection of pharaonic artifacts, including from the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
In Giza explore the ancient pyramids, the Great Sphinx and other museums relating to the history of the Nile.
Luxor sits on the Nile River, and is where cruises start/finish. Luxor is the site of ancient Thebes, the pharaoh’s capital at the height of their power. The city surrounds two amazing monuments, the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, the world’s largest ancient religious complex.
Major sites visited between Luxor and Aswan include Dendera, the Valley of Kings (the ancient burial grounds of Egyptian royalty), the Valley of Queens, Temple of Horus and Kom Ombo.
Aswan marks the other end of where cruises start/finish. It is well known for its stone quarries and granite stone known as Syenite. Depending on time, you may discover the souks and spice markets, the botanical gardens or explore the Nile on a felucca, a traditional wooden boat with two distinctive sails.
This part of the world has some of the world’s most fascinating history, so I’m excited to see these itineraries coming back. Companies pulled out a few years ago due to safety reasons - they wouldn't be back if this had not changed.
A great opportunity for that culture seeker in you!
