Last week's terror attacks in Brussels was sad news. These attacks are unpredictable, and could happen anywhere. Wendy Perrin, one of the travel industry's top bloggers, wrote an excellent piece last week on this topic, which I wanted to share in the event you had not seen it.
7 Keys to Traveling Without Fear Despite Terrorist Attacks
Wendy Perrin | March 22 2016
Today’s terror attacks in Brussels—where explosions killed dozens of people at the airport and in the metro—underscore that we’re living in a world where anything can happen anywhere at any time. Terror can strike in a Paris concert hall, on an Istanbul shopping street, in a Madrid train station, in a hotel in Mumbai, at a shrine in Bangkok, in the London Tube, in a nightclub in Bali, at a running race in Boston, in a skyscraper in Manhattan….
My first cruise was in 1986 to Alaska. That's me, my mom and grandmother taking in the stunning College Fjord. Three generations exploring the wild frontier! .
I really discovered cruising, though, in 2000 and never looked back: Alaska (again), the Caribbean, Mexico, northern Europe and Norwegian fjords, the Greek Isles, the western Mediterranean, South America and Tahiti. And there are so many more places to experience.
Needless to say, I love to cruise, for many of reasons including those outlined below. It is exciting to hear that cruising is becoming the vacation of choice these days, quickly outpacing land based travel.
Vancouver B.C. - a fantastic destination all year round. The city and the surrounding area has so much to offer, from nature and wildlife to culture, the arts and culinary delights. Something for everyone, and a great value right now for US visitors especially considering the current exchange rate.
Considering a Danube river cruise but still can't decide? The Danube is one of the most popular trips for first and second time cruisers, and for good reasons. The itineraries include interesting stops in cities and towns large and small. History, the arts and culinary delights abound. And of course there is Budapest! Budapest is both a start and end point for Danube cruises, and what a lovely city it is. Check out my article from my Danube cruise last year.
Budapest offers a lot to see and do, including the following events scheduled between July and October 2016. From air and formula one racing to art and wine festivals, maybe one of these will help you decide to take that cruise!
There are many reasons to visit Norway: Follow the footsteps of the Vikings, see the sunrise at midnight, experience the Northern Lights, spot polar bears. The crime rate is low and the UN has even rated Norway as one of happiest places in the world. All these reasons make Norway a top destination, but in my opinion, the #1 attraction are the fjords. Norway boasts the highest concentration of fjords in the world, with more than 1000 fjords that can be explored. 1000 more reasons to visit this most beautiful country.
Most people choose a big ship adventure the first time they go to Alaska. I did - the first and second visits! The first time we explored Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and College Fjord, the second time we ventured into Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka and Glacier Bay. I absolutely LOVED both trips! But now I'm ready to enjoy another side of Alaska... the uncrowded, un-touristy, down to earth, time for me, side of Alaska. This is what I consider to be the REAL Alaska.
