5 Reasons Why Savvy Travelers Book Their Travel Early

When should I book my trip?

Generally speaking, the earlier the better.  Time has a way of "zipping by".  Fast.  So before things get so busy, NOW is a great time to put down a deposit for future travel plans (especially 1-3 years out).  

5 MORE REASONS WHY SAVVY TRAVELERS BOOK EARLY:

#1 - LITTLE TO NO RISK   Deposits are generally small and fully or mostly refundable up until final payment (or 90-120 days prior to trip start).   

#2 -EARLY BOOKING DISCOUNTS AND INCENTIVES   Cruise lines (ocean and river) and land tours publish their best rates years out and offer early bird discounts and incentives.  They are the best promotions you will see during the season.  Lock them in!  Grab the lower price and/or added amenities while inventory is available.  As demand goes up,  rates increase and added amenities get fewer.  While it could happen, I have never seen river cruises or land tours lower their rates.  I have seen lower rates on ocean cruises and cruise lines usually honor the lower rates on your booking prior to final payment (though be careful - with the early bird incentives you may already have the best value).

​#3 WAITING MEANS SPENDING MORE    Sure, you may be able to snag a list minute flash sale every once in a while, but more often than not pricing is higher than what it was had you booked early.  ​  And if you have to fly to the  destination , well, any savings will be eaten up  by higher airfare.  

#4 BETTER CHOICES   Better itineraries, better dates, better choice of accommodations. This is especially true if you want a specific type of cabin, maybe a suite,  adjoining or single occupancy cabins.  Or space for a group. These are always the first to go.  Big ships, small ships, land tours - popular itineraries sell out in days and weeks, not months.  A transatlantic cruise sold out in under 2 weeks - 18 months before the sailing.  With many properties having fewer than 10-12 rooms, African safaris are booking 12-18 months in advance.  A guaranteed tee time at St. Andrews get snagged up as soon as availability is announced - 12 months in advance.  

#5 MORE TIME  More time to dream about your trip, more time to plan for the details, more time to save and/or pay for the trip.
