South Africa is Africa's 9th largest country according to its landmass. The reasons to visit this vast and culturally diverse nation are seemingly endless, and that's why it makes it on so many people's bucket lists. To encourage you a little more and to further enhance your excitement, here are five reasons you should make it to South Africa at last once in your life. CAPE TOWN AND THE WINELANDS As one of South Africa's three capitals, the Mother City is one that you must explore. Not only is it one of the top holiday destinations in the entire world, its full of natural, exotic beauty that you can't find anywhere else. There's excellent food, plenty of beaches, and, last but not least, Table Mountain. The mountain forms and unforgettable background. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, with a mix of shops, restaurants, clubs and hotels, attracts over 23 million visitors annually. From the harbor you can catch a ferry to the nature reserve Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Just south of Cape Town is the Cape of Good Hope, one of earth's most beautiful spots. North of Cape Town you'll find South Africa's 13 major wine producing regions and wine routes. One of the most famous, the Stellenbosch Wine Route, is named after Stellenbosch, founded in 1679, the second oldest European settlement after Cape Town. THE GARDEN ROUTE A 125 mile drive between Mossel Bay and Storms River, the Garden Route has some of the most breathtaking coastline views. The route is located approximately 240 miles to the east of Cape Town. You can drive this section under 3 hours, though taking your time to visit and view small towns, rugged shores, sandy beaches, and the thick forests is highly recommended. The highway passes by beautiful resorts and established towns with elegant Cape Dutch buildings. A SAFARI Wildlife can be seen in a number of sanctuaries including national parks, game reserves and private conservatories. One of the best known is Krugar National Park, home to 137 species of mammals, 500 species of birds and 100's of reptiles. On the safari, you'll get to witness and interact with Africa's Big 5: lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalos, and leopards. A number of private game reserves sit on the park's perimeter, providing the opportunity to view game in more opulent and less crowded surroundings. FAMILY SAFARI If you have decided to bring the children along on your once-in-a-lifetime, memorable South Africa vacation, make sure to go on several family-friendly safaris. Many of the safari tours will offer youth programs, age-appropriate, hands-on activities, and playgrounds. EASY TO NAVIGATE AND EXPLORE NEARBY DESTINATIONS
