A Slow Paced Luxury Barge Experience

Searching for a different type of vacation experience?   Maybe a unique trip for a family reunion or simply a group of friends?  Time to truly unwind and unplug with like minded travelers?

A luxury barge cruise experience could be just the ticket!

River cruising is quite popular,  for many great reasons.   Especially in Europe, where rivers have long been major transportation hubs,  cruises offer passengers  ample opportunity to experience history at its best and visit sites off the well traveled trail.   The number of passengers onboard is far less than ocean cruising, which creates a more intimate environment, smaller excursion groups and time to meet and mingle with fellow travelers.

Barge cruising is similar to its sister river cruises however far more intimate and slower paced.  The barges are fully inclusive, floating upscale hotels offering gourmet meals paired with regional wines and beers, excursions and a very attentive staff.   Barges range from 6-22 passengers.

Averaging 3 miles per hour and covering less than 100 miles in a week, you can just sit back and watch the scenery or engage with your fellow passengers, take a leisurely bike ride or walk along the tow path.   Now this is a relaxing,  slow paced vacation!

Some itineraries sail on the bigger rivers, however most navigate smaller waterways, canals, like this one above.  Imagine cruising past this beautiful castle, or through the canals in Holland during Tulip time.

The classic barge vacations are well known in France and take you to the Upper Loire, Burgundy, Alsace - Lorraine, Provence and Champagne regions.   Lots of history and especially nice for those who enjoy exploring lovely wine regions.    Trips are also available in Holland, Luxembourg and Germany.  Less known are the barge trips in Scotland and Ireland, and yes, even on the River Thames.    All types of themed cruises are available as well, ranging from art and culinary focuses to wine, golfing and walking.

Although the barges may be smaller, they are comfortable and offer great indoor and outdoor open spaces.

Make new friends by joining other like-minded travelers or charter the entire boat for a nice customized experience.  Barge vacations are ideal for a family or group of friends.  Love to golf?  Play a memorable round of golf at a number of different courses then relax back on board with a fine beverage and a lovely gourmet meal.   So many options!
